WSUM is pleased to announce the lineup for this year's Snake on the Lake Fest, held September 27 at the Memorial Union Terrace.

Formerly known as Party in the Park, WSUM moved its annual event to a new location in 2007 and the day of free music was re-christened Snake on the Lake Fest.

This year's lineup features national, regional and local acts.

Tortoise

Tortoise
This five-piece post-rock instrumental band has gained a large following since its first releases in the mid-90s. Though based in Chicago, they have not played in Madison in several years. They have a large fan base that crosses genres; their inclusion at both Bonnaroo and Pitchfork Music Festival showcases their wide appeal.

Damien Jurado

Seattle-based singer-songwriter Jurado is on tour this fall in support of his upcoming September release, Caught in the Trees, his tenth studio album. The Terrace should prove to be an ideal venue for his country-tinged folk.

Awesome Color

Also touring behind a new album, Awesome Color plays noisy psych-garage rock. Hailing from Michigan by way of Brooklyn, “the trio set out to inject a little Detroit rock know-how into the tired underground punk scene” according to allmusic.com. They soon earned Thurston Moore as a fan, who signed them to his Ecstatic Peace! label.

Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson

It’s tough to overlook Brooklyn-based MBAR’s great connections, seeing as his debut album features appearances from Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor, Chris Bear and Daniel Rossen along with Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio.

However, MBAR’s songwriting skills stand out even among his famous friends. His dark folk-rock has earned him comparisons to Conor Oberst and Bob Dylan.

As with last year’s event, WSUM’s own DJs will spin sets between live acts. Entertainment is slated to last from 4 pm to midnight. Artist appearances are subject to change without notice.
