Time: Fridays 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Host Info: Peter Allen (Communication Arts/English Major, Senior)

What is your show like? To love is to be sad and to be sad is to love.  Sad Bastard Music belongs to the dying breed of musicians who dare to care in the face of selfishness, apathy, greed, violence and arrogance.  Passion and compassion only thrives in a soul who can carry the weight of feeling pain.

Why should people listen to your show?  If you've been abused by sappy and happy radio across the dial, if your tired of needless commercial interruptions, and if you like an eclectic mix of new and old Indie-Rawk, New-Wave, Alt-Country, Post-Punk, and Soul, then listen to my show.

How long have you had a show at WSUM?  For four longs years, ever since my first semester as a freshman.  WSUM was the reason I decided to come to UW-Madison because I'd been listening to the Snake on the Lake since high school.

What do you do outside of the station? I write and play music under the stage name P.C. Allen (Playing at SXSW in a week!) I take pictures and write for Emmie Magazine.  I bum around WUD Music every now and then as well.

Favorite Music: Otis Redding, Yo La Tengo, Low, Elliott Smith, Luna, Talking Heads, Bob Dylan, Andrew Bird, The Jayhawks, Elvis Costello, Sleater-Kinney, Pavement, Pixies, Wilco, The National, Ry Cooder, Beck, Nick Drake, M.Ward, & Guided By Voices.

Make-your-own Question: I'll steal from High Fidelity… “Top five musical crimes perpetuated by Stevie Wonder in the '80s and '90s,”go?  Sub-question: is it in fact unfair to criticize a formerly great artist for his latter day sins or is it better to burn out or fade away?” 1. I Just Called To Say “I Love You” 2. The Broadway Album w/ Barbra Streisand 3. My Love w/ Julio Iglesias 4. We Are The World 5. Ebony and Ivory w/ Paul McCartney.  Yes it's fair to criticize formerly great artists and punish lazy songwriting whenever it occurs (cough) — King Of Limbs– (cough).  A Sad Bastard like myself believes it is much better to go down swinging in a blaze of glory (Otis Redding, The Beatles) then it is to get sloppy (Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello).  Consistency needs a nod here though, what's why Yo La Tengo will forever be my favorite band: 25 years of killer live shows and 16 LPs without a bad album in the bunch.
