“Are you ready for a journey down the wormhole?”

Is there a better way to spend those first few days winding down from Halloween festivities than going to Madison's Majestic for some Beats Antique and a freaky punk, mad max masquerade party? I think not. Beats Antique is famous for their world and electronic fusion sound and it's easy to hear why. David Satori, Zoe Jakes, and Tommy “Sidecar” Cappel serve as not only talented musicians, but also as entertaining performance artists with their many sexy, silly and eccentric outfits, choreographed dances, psychedelic visuals and insane inflatable props. As a shared journey with the audiences, the trio says they hope to make every live concert experience part odyssey, part genre-warping rock opera. Posing the question, “Are you ready?,” before even hitting a drum beat was only the start to a wild night with enthused fans in a sold-out house screaming for a musical trip break the bounds of reality.

Beats 2

Almost every song played at the show was off of their new 2013 album, A Thousand Faces: Act 1. The group has described this album as being a collaborative mix of Middle Eastern traditions and potent west coast circus, underground hip hop, breakbeat brass band, downtempo, glitch and dubstep. The crowd was sure dressed to rock each of these genres too, seeing many girls in belly dancing clothing and many boys in vests and top hats. Others were covered in glow sticks, face paint, and extremely amusing masks, which among the flashes of colorful lights, it was enough to send anyone spinning. The bass vibrations rocked me hard from my high heels to my pounding head. It was the most erotic feeling to let the music take me.

Beats 1

I consider myself to be a musical guru of the most psychedelic music, and I would place this group in a genre of their own. No other group can come close to this kind of musical experience paired with such captivating belly dancing all night long. I left the show mystified, insanely excited to check out more, and not to mention half deaf. Beats Antique is outrageous and meant to be a sound felt up close and personal.
