Mr. Jackson (Ethan Jackson) a Madison eastsider, is doing some super funky stuff, creating hypnotic and smooth R&B, his latest video clip for “The Golden Treatment” drizzles in sweetness.
A fellow Madison eastsider, Michael Doyle Olson, directed the visuals for Mr. Jackson’s “The Golden Treatment.” Steve Horn sat down with Michael to talk about the creative process behind the music video.
Ethan and I went to high school together – he approached me a few months ago and asked if I would make a music video for a song from his upcoming album “The Golden Hour Groove Session.” When I heard the track and the album I was excited and eager to collaborate. Over the course of the past few months, Ethan and I have spent a lot of time together and I’ve learned that we have quite a bit in common. We’re have similar creative sensibilities and senses of humor; similarities which have made working together very natural and fruitful.
I got the idea for the video the first time I heard the track – it seemed obvious to cover things in honey and shoot it in slow motion. The song put me in a trance and I wanted to do my best to magnify that feeling and pass it along to the viewer.
I’m looking forward to working with Ethan on more videos in the future – we’ve got a lot of freaky ideas in the works.
