When asked to describe Cloud Cult, I always seem to be at a loss for words, because I feel words are not enough to truly capture the essence of their art. With their (figurative and literal) roots buried deep within Minnesotan soil, Cloud Cult grew from the experiences of loss and infinite love.

As an eight piece band, consisting of six musicians and two on-stage painters, they bring together what I can only describe as the heavens and earth. The combination of horn, string, and percussion instruments alongside a rather experimental and energizing music style puts them into a genre of their very own. Band creator Craig Minowa's lyrics explore and question the true meanings of love and existence.

Minow and his wife, one of the on-stage artists, are organic farmers. The passion and respect for nature reverberates throughout many of the songs, and the band itself displays this passion by using only recycled material for their albums and recording in a geothermal energy studio, built by Minowa. To counteract their carbon footprint, the band has collectively planted several thousand trees and donate to organizations that build wind turbines.

During “An Evening with Cloud Cult,” the band will perform two very special sets of their music: one completely electric and the other completely acoustic. This tour celebrates the upcoming release of Cloud Cult's “Unplug” album, to be released April 15th, 2014. The early shows of this tour, such as those in St. Paul, Milwaukee, and Chicago, have all sold out.

The members of Cloud Cult expose their souls each night they take stage, and their passion is so very contagious. Attending a Cloud Cult performance is a very spiritual and surreal experience; it's as if the music floods through your entire being. Their performances have been said to be “life changing” for many fans, and I'm sure this tour will not disappoint.

Cloud Cult perform Saturday, March 1st, 2014 at The Barrymore Theatre in Madison, WI.
