“All I need is an extra day,” pleads Tommy Shears of The Living Statues, on track 2 of Knockin' EP titled ‘Extra Day.' And I'd have to agree with him. Their official debut has been worth the wait, but now I need some more time to savor it. With their show fast approaching, I'm hoping for an extra second to sit and put this EP on repeat.
Established in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 2012, The Living Statues quickly grew in popularity. After touring in Los Angles and opening for musicians such as Mayer Hawthorne, Hanni El Khatib, The Vaccines, and Best Coast, they are back in the Midwest. With a their new EP out as of April 8th they have come home to celebrate with the fans that first grew to love their garage rock sound. Better yet, their first release party is right here in Madison, at the Frequency on April 11th, and to top it off, admission includes a free digital download of the EP.
TLS have accomplished the near impossible: they have matured in sound and sound quality while still holding on to their rough, garage-rock passion. With inspiration from one of the bands favorite artists, Jack White, TLS conveys ardent, near crazed, emotion. Powerful rhythms from Chris Morales, steady bass from Alex Thornburg, and passionate vocals coupled with slick guitar riffs from Tommy combine to create a trio that breathes new life to the garage-rock sound.
I can tell you from experience, their live shows can't be missed. I will see you at the Frequency this Friday, April 11th at 7:00 p.m.
