Spinitron

Over the past week or so you may have noticed a new button under the “Search Playlist” button and “Now Playing/Just Played” box labeled “Spinitron Playlist”. The more curious of our listeners may have already discovered that this button takes you to WSUM's Spinitron website. While you may have explored already, you may not know what it means.

Spinitron is a website that provides playlist hosting for radio stations. It will allow us to move away from our current playlist entry, which was unreliable and (as many listeners have discovered) lacked any information on songs played by our automation system. Spinitron will fix those problems and also make it easier for you, the listener, to track your favorite songs, shows, or DJs.

WSUM will be switching over to all-Spinitron entry on Tuesday 11/4/2014.  On that day, all shows will be using Spinitron for playlist entry and the old playlist search feature on the website will be removed.

Do not fear, as Spinitron has many great features that will make exploring WSUM's playlists easier.

The screen shot above is taken from the main WSUM page on Spinitron. It shows the most current show's playlist and includes various links which will help you search our playlists.

The main page area includes links for more information about the current playlist, show, and DJ.

  • Clicking the show name (under “Most Recent Playlist”) will take you to the show's page where you can discover what your favorite shows are all about.
  • Clicking the host name (following “with”) will take you to the DJ's page for more information about them and any shows they do.
  • Clicking the artist or album name will show you what is getting played from the artist or album on WSUM.

The sidebar (under the Spinitron disc logo) includes a variety of ways to explore our playlists.

  • Each day in the calendar is clickable and will show you every playlist entered for a given day. This will make finding information about a song you heard last week much simpler than before.
  • “Current playlist” will link you back to the current show's playlist from wherever you happen to be.
  • “Program schedule” takes you to the program schedule, where all of our shows are listed. From here, you can see what show was playing at a specific day and time as well as see all of the playlists for the show.
  • “WSUM's web site” takes you to… well… wsum.org
  • All of the browse links will show you all of the Artists/Disks/Labels that WSUM DJs are spinning.
  • Finally, if all else fails, you can use the search bar to search the currently selected month for the song, artist, or disk in which you are interested.

That's basically it! Your favorite shows and DJs will be using Spinitron exclusively starting Tuesday11/4/2014, so be sure to explore what Spinitron has to offer.
