The concerts I attend usually entail the crowd singing along to the music, but for some reason, I don't think that will be the case for Tycho.

Tycho has been making music now for about a decade, but did not make it into the national spotlight until about a year ago. Tycho's leader, Scott Hansen, began working exclusively as a producer from his laptop, but later decided he wanted to develop his sound to an actual live project. After switching record labels to Ghostly International, Hansen created a three-piece band containing drums, electric and bass guitar, and keyboard. The band has an organic sound derived from ambient melodies, making for a truly original final product. It will be interesting to see how his melodic sound transfers into a live environment. I have never attended a concert that didn't feature a vocalist, which makes me a little worried about an uninteresting performance, but I highly doubt Tycho reached his popularity level without dazzling a few audiences.

Now that Tycho is comprised of more than a laptop, I can't help but to compare them to Alt-J (only lacking a vocalist). The Nara-ish resemblance is unmistakable when listening to them back-to-back; both Alt-J and Tycho create a naturalistic sound that takes you on a journey into a fictional universe made-up of flying things, nature, and moving in slow motion (at least for me).

Beacon, a similar genre music duo, will be opening for Tycho this Monday. Beacon is a purely-electronic band, much like Tycho was a couple years ago before developing into a band. Seeing both the electric and the instrumental versions of the same, ambient genre in one night will be a dizzying comparison that will provide Tycho with the perfect opportunity to showcase his newly-formed live band.

Tycho has previously toured all over the world, and is now touring across the US stopping in, seemingly, every state. Here is just a little something to look forward to:

Tycho and Beacon will be playing at the Majestic on Monday 3/23 doors at 7:30 PM and show at 8 PM.
