More than 340 Free Concerts Scheduled to Kick Off Summer

Make Music Madison's fourth year features new opportunities to perform

MADISON, Wis. (June 6, 2016) – Where can you catch a free concert by the family R&B band of Badger basketball star Vitto Brown? And where will you find crowds being wowed by tiny violinist Declan Killeen Toomey, winner of Best Child Musician at Overture's Rising Stars last year when he was only 5? And where might you soak up the tunes of blues greats Paul Filipowicz and Old Black Joe on a sultry summer evening?

Make Music Madison, the annual citywide, free, outdoor day of music held on the summer solstice, Tuesday, June 21. Initiated in 2013 as Madison's entry into the international summer solstice music celebration, this event joins over 700 communities around the world in kicking off summer by turning the city into a stage, and offering a full spectrum of performers the opportunity to display their musical skills.

This fourth anniversary of the festival will feature more than 340 performances at nearly 100 outdoor venues all across town. Music can be heard from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at local businesses, community centers, private residences, neighborhood parks and other public spaces.

This year the solstice lands our celebration mid-week for the first time, and the festival is taking shape to follow the pace and patterns of the summer workday in the city. Commuters will catch early performances at venues along the bike paths and major arteries. Daytime performances will populate day camp stages, the Zoo, Children's Museum and a smattering of cafe venues. Outdoor diners will enjoy a great variety of performers over the lunch hour. And after 5:00 pm, the city will explode with music.

Browse all 340 performances and map your schedule for the day. Further information on Make Music Madison is available here!
