Indie pop trio, Miike Snow, will make their Madison debut this Tuesday, July 26 at the Majestic Theatre, and if you managed to score tickets to the sold out show, consider yourself extremely lucky. After nearly a four year hiatus from both touring and releasing music, the band returns with full-force to promote their third album, iii, which was released this past March. Member Pontus Winnberg describes the album as, “the original Miike Snow sound, but taken to the next level,” and the live show is expected to be no less. Concert-goers can anticipate a dance party vibe with heavy synth, catchy vocals, and an enticing light show.
For those unfamiliar, Miike Snow began in Sweden in 2007 as a playful experiment when producers Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg, and songwriter Andrew Wyatt decided to try creating music together. It started as, “just three people messing around,” says Wyatt, but that messing around quickly evolved into a full-fledged band that met massive success with their 2009 self-titled debut. With hits like Animal and Black & Blue, the trio became a celebrated name in the music world, and in 2012, their sophomore album, Happy to You, grew their popularity even more and sparked a global tour. However, the release of a third album was a mystery to fans as well as the band members. The Miike Snow project was put on the back burner while all three musicians lived in different parts of the world focusing on their solo projects. After a few years apart, Miike Snow was reborn during a reunion in LA in 2014. Similar to when they first met many years back, the trio gathered in the studio with no expectations, just curiosity and a desire to experiment. Nearly identical to the formation of the band; the group produced their third studio album, iii, from just playing around with the music and having it somehow piece together perfectly.
Along with their first music released in years comes Miike Snow's first tour in years. The band returned with an album premiere concert in New York City this past March and continued to tour across America, including appearances at Ultra Music Festival and Governor's Ball Music Festival, as well as a few dates in Europe. Now in the middle of the tour, attendees can expect the cobwebs to be dusted off and the trio to be back on top of their performance when they play in Madison this Tuesday. Judging from the artists' obscure hiatus and reunion, it's hard to tell when, or if, fans will get graced with new music or live performances in the future. So, if you're among the fortunate ticketholders to this Tuesday's show at the Majestic, be sure to strap on your dancing shoes and get there early to enjoy the full set because it truly is a mystery when Miike Snow will return.
