On Friday, September 9th WSUM 91.7FM Student Radio and WUD Music present:

Snake on the Lake 2016 at The Frequency

This year's line up includes:

  • Whitney
  • Carroll
  • Hoops
  • Trophy Dad

The show is free and for ages 18+.

Snake on the Lake, previously known as Park in the Park, is WSUM's annual music festival that showcases the station's diverse and alternative programing!

Previous headliners included The White Stripes, Andrew W.K, Saint Pepsi (Skylar Spence) and Burial Hex.  WSUM's non-profit board, Friends of Madison Student Radio, continues to run as the station's fiscal agent for the event.

Colectivo Coffee and WUD Music serve as this year's festival sponsors.

WSUM is excited to announce Chicago indie-rock band, Whitney, as the festival's headliner.  Their 2016 debuting album Light Upon the Lake has received universal acclaim across music publications including Pitchfork, NME, and The Guardian.  Whitney will be supported by other Midwest indie & lo-fi favorites: Carroll (Minneapolis), Hoops (Bloomington), and Trophy Dad (Madison).

We advise attendees to get there early!  Doors open at 8pm.

WHITNEY:

Max Kakacek and Julian Ehrlich, both formerly of Smith Westerns, have bestowed 2016 a brilliant new band with mesmerizing zeal. Whitney returns to Madison under a revered spotlight.  In less than 2 months, their debuting album Light Upon the Lake, labeled as Pitchfork's “Best New Music”, has received wide acclaim across multiple music platforms. Whitney's sound, with its signature warm brass & unique dual vocal and drumming performance from Ehrlich (also formerly of Unknown Mortal Orchestra), has made bittersweet nostalgia a catchy summer anthem.

CARROLL:

Carroll is a refreshing reminder of true psych technique. The Minneapolis-based group relies on older synthesizers and slide guitar to deliver their spacey psychedelic pop and aquatic synth.  The effects are authentic – and as are the rumors of an upcoming album, to follow their esteemed 2015 self titled debut LP.

HOOPS:

The Bloomington band is quickly turning heads.  Their fast dreamy guitar riffs and light shoe gaze have caught the attention of several music publications, apprehensive of their emerging music. Their 2016 single ‘Cool #2', has already been featured as SPIN's “song of the week” and reached top rank on Spotify's global viral charts.  Hoops self-titled EP is due out August 26th.

TROPHY DAD:

This city is not shy of talent or dry of energy, as long as Trophy Dad sticks around. These Madison favs embody the best of bedroom pop & lo-fi rock. With great moxie & enticing wit, Trophy Dad captures our thoughts (even the ones we feel hesitant to share).
