Last night, the Frequency was packed with a crowd of all shapes and sizes with one common goal: to get groovy. The night started off with the local Madison rockers Gloss Coats, who got the crowd moving and ready for a night of jams (Gloss Coats will be playing Live at WSUM this coming Friday so tune in from 3-5 P.M. to check ‘em out). The band was followed up by Milwaukee trio Surgeons In Heat, who wowed the crowds with their Ariel Pink influenced white boy soul. But finally, Mild High Club got on stage and got everyone swaying. The set was just right. They played fan favorites “Windowpane,” and “Weeping Willow,” alongside newer, even sexier tracks like “Kokopelli,” “Homage”. When the piano solo for “Undeniable” came on, I thought for sure it was a rip-off of Mozart. Those guys are masters of their craft, and put on a hell of a show for a band who brand themselves as mild.
