Boy oh boy am I excited for this coming Tuesday! I will finally be crossing a long-overdue band from my concert bucket list when Athens, Georgia band Of Montreal takes the stage starting at 8:30 at the Majestic. The elephant 6 collective member will be promoting his newest album Innocence Reaches, his most electro-pop effort to date. But what I'm really looking forward to are some of the earlier tracks. If Kevin Barnes plays just about anything from the debut 1997 album Cherry Peel, I might break into tears. But the night will be anything but a downer. If there's one thing this group is good at, it's turning depressing thoughts or stories into glorified dance pop anthems, like on “Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse,” from their 2007 release Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?.
No matter the set list, the night is sure to be full of surprises. And I can't wait to see what the band has in store for Madison. Who knows, Dustin Hoffman might even make an appearance…
