March 14, Cold War Kids will be stopping by the Majestic to play a show while on their Love is Mystical Tour. The Long Beach CA band made up of Nathan Willett (vocals), Matt Maust (bass), Matthew Schwartz (guitar), Joe Plummer (no, not Joe the Plumber – drums), and David Quon (guitar) should find themselves a happy audience as it's their first time back in Madison since 2015. Cold War Kids will be touring without Dann Gallucci, previously the lead guitarist and ex-member of Modest Mouse, who left the band in 2016 to become the producer of the radio show “Bullseye with Jesse Thorn.” Joe Plummer also comes from Modest Mouse in addition to serving a stint with The Shins. As if to make up for the dreary weather, Cold War Kids should at least find themselves in friendly political territory, especially since following in the footsteps of Death Cab for Cutie with the release of the Trump protest song “Locker Room Talk,” something that can't be said of their entire tour which takes them down to Okeechobee County, an area Trump won by nearly 40%. At any rate, hopefully fans of Cold War Kids can eschew their political beliefs and unite for some great live music in the fact that Love is Mystical.
