This Saturday, The Majestic will host Goldlink and Masego to continue what has been a jam-packed few weeks of rising artists performing in Madison.
These two acts complement each other quite well with just the right blend of hip-hop, electro, dance & funk. Goldlink's last several projects have solidified his unique sound aesthetic that the 24-year-old calls ‘future bounce,' pairing abstract, syncopated verses over newer house and trap influenced instrumentals. The DMV-based rapper has worked with the likes of producers Rick Rubin, Kaytranada, BADBADNOTGOOD & other related artists like Isaiah Rashad, Wale, Steve Lacy & Cisero. After releasing his debut mixtape in 2014 The God Complex, his latest project At What Cost has gained a lot of recognition since earlier this year. He's been a frequent feature in Joe Kay's SOULECTION radio on Beats 1 and constantly appears in mixes on SoundCloud by other well-known DJs and producers.
Goldlink is sure to bring high energy to the Majestic this weekend, but there's no reason why you shouldn't just come only for him. Masego is equally worth hearing, as his funky looping and well-rounded instrumentation is reminiscent FKJ's performance in March. The vocalist/saxophonist reminds me of Ryan Leslie, only a bit jazzier and more slowed down. It'll be interesting to see if these two end up collaborating on a few songs throughout the night.
