Among The Noise: Poppy Ackroyd’s Resolve

A dream-like state.

Introducing Among The Noise where I, Tyler, Music Director here at WSUM, pick out an album that’s been released in the past week or so that has stuck out in the stream of tracks introduced to me.

This week is Poppy Ackroyd’s 5th studio album, Resolve. Resolve is a neo-classical work that has as much rhythmic value as a Steve Reich piece, while still having moving passages that wouldn’t sound out of place in a film score. Her background as a classically trained pianist and composer shines through in both the instrumentation and production of the songs, each one featuring dense textures created with classical instrumentation and masterful transitions in both melody and harmony.
