If I were to guess, Tuesday's show at the Frequency will probably be the last intimate venue Superorganism tries to fit in for a while. A seven piece band, equipped with instruments, mics, screens and thrilling outerwear, Superorganism was more than too big for its britches physically. Lead by singer Orono Noguchi, Superorganism brings a fun, semi-serious attitude to the concept of internet pop. Each show is undoubtedly a party leaving audiences begging for more material to sing along to and more space to dance; Tuesday was no exception.

The group put out their debut, self-titled album in March of this year, and as Noguchi remarked when introducing the title track, “the song is Superorganism, the album is Superorganism, the band is Superorganism. It's pretty straight forward. Every band needs a theme song.” Straight forward is strangely a large part of the group's approach. Noguchi's low tone and straight affect seem to create a persona of truth and casual appreciation. Noguchi states facts like “Low key baby, I'm never feeling quite alright,” “everything is better when you are everything,” and “everybody wants to be famous” while B, Ruby, and Soul dance enthusiastically and sing backing vocals. Visuals of internet clips collaged, cropped, and altered by Robert Strange play over the scene, (bandmates and background) while Tucan, Harry, and Emily create a layered instrumentation that is impossible not to dance to.

There's something to be said for a flat affect in a pop band. Noguchi's directions to the crowd of “come closer,” “get crazy now,” and “sing louder” seemed to have a stronger effect coming from your not so standard teenager. In a way, it was her matter of fact tone that felt both invested in the fun, and not worried if it seemed weird. After all, we were at a high energy synth pop concert. Of course we should be dancing, it would be absurd not to sing louder, why wouldn't we get wild. We all just want to be a Superorganism.
