Republican state Senator Leah Vukmir released the first ad for her U.S. Senate campaign on Monday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The ad begins with pictures of her family while audio of death threats plays in the background. The camera then shifts to Vukmir at a kitchen table, a handgun near her right hand.
“Ever have someone threaten your life for something you believe in? I have,” Vukmir says in the ad.
“When Scott Walker and I beat the union bosses, cut billions in taxes and defunded Planned Parenthood, the left couldn't take it,” she says . She promises to “do the same in Washington.”
“Standing on principle takes guts. I know what it takes.” She then introduces herself and states that she approves the message.
Vukmir is a state senator representing Wisconsin's 5th Senate District—which primarily consists of eastern Waukesha and western Milwaukee Counties since 2010.
She is running in the Republican primary against businessman Kevin Nicholson. The primary will take place on August 14, and the winner will go on to face incumbent Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin in the general election.
