Race for Governor:

Eight Democratic candidates remain in the primary race to unseat incumbent Gov. Scott Walker.

Tony Evers:

Tony Evers serves as the Superintendent of Public instruction, first elected in 2009. He served as deputy state superintendent before then. He hails from Plymouth, Wisconsin, and received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in educational administration from UW-Madison. He first worked as a teacher in Baraboo.

Matt Flynn:

Matt Flynn is the former head of the state Democratic Party, where he served for two terms. He attended law school at UW-Madison and has a law career in Milwaukee. Flynn has run four times previously for congress, in 1978, 1986, 1988 and 2004.

Mike McCabe:

Mike McCabe is a political activist and founder of the organization Blue Jean Nation. In 1995, he helped found the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, a nonpartisan watchdog group which he led for 15 years.

Mahlon Mitchell:

Mahlon Mitchell is the head of the state firefighters union, having worked as a firefighter himself for more than 20 years. He has worked as a counselor at and directed the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety’s Burn Camp, among other outreach work.

Josh Pade is a corporate attorney from Kenosha who has worked in both the public and private sector.

Kelda Roys is a former state Representative and served as the vice-chair of the Committee on Health and Healthcare reform. She started her own business and served as the executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin.

Paul Soglin:

Paul Soglin is the mayor of Madison, where he has served on and off for several decades since 1973. He received his bachelor’s and law degree from UW-Madison, where, as a student, he was active in the protests against the Vietnam War.

Kathleen Vinehout:

Kathleen Vinehout is a state senator representing the Eau Claire area, who works on the audit committee. She was first elected in 2006, when she ran while owning and operating a dairy farm in Buffalo County. She has also taught at the Health Service Administration Program at the University of Illinois Springfield.

Race for 77th State Assembly District:

Four Democrats are vying for the open seat on Madison’s west side.

Mark Garthwaite:

He worked as molecular biology research specialist for 17 years before becoming the Executive director of the Wisconsin Brewers–a non-profit trade association for small and independent craft breweries in Wisconsin.
