Tonight (November 2) Madison and The Sylvee are being graced with the presence of the one and only Kamasi Washington: composer, producer, and saxophone extraordinaire, paired with the rising progressive jazz band, Butcher Brown.
Kamasi is touring in honor of his new album, “Heaven and Earth”, the second full album as a solo artist, however his full discography is a band member is incredibly vast, featuring appearances with several bands and orchestras, as well as famously composing and performing in albums with Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Run the Jewels, and more.Although Kamasi was critically acclaimed for his composing and performance work in other groups, it was the infamous “The Epic” that really brought him to the very forefront of experimental jazz.Kamasi does not make music for passive listening; he requires your full attention. Both “The Epic” and “Heaven and Earth” are well over two hours, filled with long improvised solos as well as elements of hip-hop and R&B throughout, making them both truly unique listens.
The perfect complement to an act this revolutionary is up and coming “garage punk jazz funk” band, Butcher Brown, from Richmond VA.Each member of the band has a rich history in music, starting at ages as young as 11 to become experts in their field. However, despite their intensively technical backgrounds, Butcher Brown values experimentation above all else.Their refusal to simply stick to one genre shows their intense depth as both individual artists and one cohesive band.
Doors open at 7, Show starts at 8.Swing by High Noon Saloon before the show for The Sylvee pre-party with free live music from Shakey: A Tribute to Neil Young!
