Governor Tony Evers signed a bill requiring student IDs to include contact information for suicide prevention hotlines.
This law will affect all newly issued student IDs issued by Wisconsin public schools, including the UW system.
This was one of three education bills that Evers signed today, the other two creating a school-based mental health pilot program and placing additional restrictions on secluding or physically restricting students.
Through a press release, Governor Evers said “these bills are another step forward in ensuring that our kids feel safe and supported in their classrooms.”
According to Channel3000, this suite of bills follows legislation Evers signed last month to fund suicide prevention programs for high schoolers.
