Wisconsin extends its Safer-At-Home order to May 26.

Governor Tony Evers ordered the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to lengthen the state's safer at home from its original end-date of April 24 to May 26, as the coronavirus continues to spread throughout Wisconsin.

Discussing his decision, Governor Evers said that while the order has resulted in real progress thus far, Wisconsinites must remain vigilant.

“A few weeks ago, we had a pretty grim outlook for what COVID-19 could mean for our state, but because of the efforts of all of you, Safer at Home is working,” said the Governor through a press release. “That said, we aren't out of the woods just yet.”

However, the new order does ease certain restrictions on businesses to allow for more activity. The order includes a general provision allowing non-essential businesses to conduct minimum basic operations.

More specifically, the order also permits public libraries to provide curbside pickup for books, golf courses to re-open under certain scheduling restrictions, lawn care or construction work as long as it is done by one person, and arts-and-crafts stores to provide curbside pickup for mask-making materials.

The social distancing and travel guidelines of the original order remain in effect. The new order reiterates that Wisconsin Public Schools will remain closed through the rest of the 2019-2020 school year.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, there are currently 3,875 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Wisconsin, 352 of which are in Dane County.
