Epic Systems reverses its decision to require employees to return to its campus and gives them the option to continue working remotely.
According to Channel3000, Epic CEO Judy Faulkner sent an email to employees Wednesday night giving them permission to continue working from home as the company begins re-opening its physical campus.
The medical systems company and biggest private employer in Madison made national news for previously requiring its nearly 10,000 employees to return to work on campus before dropping the policy under internal and external pressure.
According to the Cap Times, a survey of over 400 anonymous Epic employees found that 90% of respondents were uncomfortable returning to its campus in August.
Under its new re-opening policy, employees can still return to campus if they prefer and will be provided an individual office to maintain social distancing.
Epic's reversal comes as COVID-19 continues to ransack Dane County and Wisconsin at large. According to Public Health Madison and Dane County, the county's total confirmed cases rose to 4,664 on Wednesday, and, according to the Department of Health Services, Wisconsin passed 1,000 COVID-19 deaths on Tuesday.
