Do you crave the rush of calling play-by-play for championship games? Three generations of WSUM Sports Directors will share their insight about making the leap from college radio to professional sportscasting. Join Kyle Deckelbaum, Chris Vosters, and Reid Magnum to hear stories from the field and to ask questions about how to prepare for your own career.
Kyle Deckelbaum is an Emmy and three-time Edward R. Murrow award-winning TV sports reporter at Little Rock ABC affiliate KATV. He began his career at WKBT, the CBS affiliate in La Crosse, after serving as WSUM's Sports and News Director from 2009-2012.
Chris Vosters is a play-by-play broadcaster based in Chicago. At the University of Wisconsin, Chris graduated with honors from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Outside the classroom, Chris's career vision crystalized thanks to his time at the university's state-of-the-art student radio station, 91.7-FM WSUM. Chris reached a major stepping-stone in 2015 when he accepted the lead broadcast position for the Great Lakes Loons, a Dodgers' affiliate, and ESPN 100.9-FM WLUN in Midland, Michigan. The Loons won the Midwest League championship in 2016, and Chris was named the league's broadcaster of the year by his peers. Since 2017, Chris has called games for the Big Ten Network, FOX Sports, the ESPN family of networks, NBC Sports and Stadium. A particular highlight and honor for Chris came when he broadcast 4K figure skating for the 2018 Winter Olympics and wheelchair curling for the Paralympic Winter Games with NBC. The Sportscasters' Talent Agency of America recognized Chris on its latest 30 Under 30 list of the top broadcasters under age 30.
Reid Magnum is the official on-air voice of Wisconsin Badger Women's Hockey and a fill-in play-by-play broadcaster for Wisconsin Badger Women's Basketball. Along with his wife, Reid is also the co-host of the syndicated radio show Reid & Chelsey Mornings.
