When exploring pizza places in Madison there are two establishments that stand out the most. In this article we will cover my top two favorite pizza restaurants within the range of WSUM Airwaves and go into why they're special and what makes them the best. 

Greenbush Bar

• Address: 914 Regent Street, Madison, WI 53715 

• Pizza I Got: Stromboli 

• Price: $20.00 

Greenbush Bar is nestled in the basement of the historic Italian Workmen's Club, offering a cozy, speakeasy atmosphere with twinkling string lights. Their menu features a variety of thin-crust pizzas, with options to customize toppings.  

What I Loved About It:

One of the thinnest pizzas I have ever had. The corn meal crust provided the perfect crisp and contrast to the flavors of the peperoni imported from Italy. The ambiance, with its historic charm and intimate lighting, made for a memorable experience. 

A Brief History:

Established in 1993, Greenbush Bar has been serving its iconic tavern-style pizza for over two decades. Located beneath one of America's oldest continually operating Italian social clubs, it offers a slice of the Greenbush neighborhood's rich history.  

Grampa's Pizzeria

• Address: 1374 Williamson Street, Madison, WI 53703 

• Pizza I Got: Goomba 

• Price: $19.00 

Grampa's Pizzeria, located on Madison's near eastside is a unique upscale pizza establishment known for its commitment to fresh, seasonal ingredients and a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The pizzeria offers a variety of handcrafted thin crust pizzas which change periodically throughout the year, reflecting a dedication to quality and flavor.  

What I Loved About It:

The creamy garlic sauce blend was exceptional and thin crust provided a satisfying crunch. The ambiance of Grampa's Pizzeria, with its rustic charm and warm lighting, made the dining experience super enjoyable. 

A Brief History:

Owner Gilbert Altschul opened Grampa's Pizzeria with a vision of creating an artisan pizzeria that focuses on quality ingredients, warm service, and atmosphere. The restaurant uses his grandpas family recipe and since its opening it has become one of the most popular pizza places in Madison. 

Final Thoughts:

Both Greenbush Bar and Grampa's Pizzeria offer unique and delightful pizza experiences within the range of WSUM's airwaves. Whether you're in the mood for a historic setting with classic thin-crust pizza or an upscale artisan restaurant that uses fresh, seasonal ingredients, these establishments are sure to satisfy all of your pizza cravings.
